If you ask someone what they do for a living and they reply that they are a “consultant”, you’re often left with as little clarity as you had before you asked the question, and for good reason. A consultant is essentially a person who provides professional advice; a specialist and an expert in a specific area of expertise.
As a beauty industry consultant, I am brought in as a professional outside source to solve problems and complete specific tasks within beauty businesses and on behalf of beauty professionals.
Unless you have a large company, it is not likely that you have people on staff dedicated to all critical areas of running your successful business outside of the regular day-to-day activities.
Do you have someone specifically dedicated to training your team on sales techniques and strategies? To run targeted marketing campaigns? To create and monitor your website? To write thousands of words for your book, website, brochures and marketing materials? To review and update best practices regularly? To handle community engagement? To staff and train for outside events? To plan and coordinate business related events? To represent your business at professional events and conventions?
As an entrepreneur in the beauty business the likely answer to those questions is easily no, and that’s fine. These days, unless you are running a multi-million dollar business it would be silly to even attempt to hire separate individuals for those positions. Instead, it would be best for you to hire a consultant with expertise in those areas to achieve your objectives. Now, I know you would love to hire 6 or 7 new people to your payroll along with the additional insurance and taxes 😉 , but I would suggest you consider the alternative.
These days if you are a beauty entrepreneur the name of the game is scalability. It doesn’t matter if you have a beauty salon, a barber shop, a lash boutique or provide professional hair weaves, you don’t want to hire people for the sake of hiring them. Your business should be as lean as possible while still being efficient (that’s another topic for another day).
Save yourself the time, headache and money and hire a professional to handle the areas outside of your direct expertise. A beauty industry consultant can be hired for a short or long period of time, to complete one or a multitude of tasks within your business.
As business owner you may know exactly what you need to do, you may even know how to do it but isn’t it better to have a trusted professional available as needed to take things off of your plate, so that you can focus on growing your business and provide the highest return on you time investment?
